During the fall of 2024 and summer of 2025, residents across New Jersey reported unusual lights in the sky, sparking speculation about UFOs and raising national security concerns after several sightings occurred near military installations. While many observers suspected alien activity, a contractor for the U.S. Army, speaking anonymously, has claimed the lights were actually experimental drone aircraft being tested by the military.
According to the source, the craft was showcased during the Army’s Unmanned Aerial Systems and Launched Effects Summit at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in August 2025. Earlier, in January 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that some of the reported drone sightings were connected to authorized military test flights, though it declined to release further details. The contractor said the nature of the project remained classified under a private government contract, exempting it from public disclosure.
Photographs of the drone show an unconventional dual-wing design featuring multiple rotors across a 20-foot wingspan. Witnesses described the craft as silent and capable of rapid, low-altitude maneuvers, sometimes appearing to disappear from view depending on the observer’s angle—characteristics that contributed to its UFO-like reputation.
The same contractor alleges that test flights were conducted over New Jersey in November 2024, coinciding with a widely publicized sighting near the Army’s Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County on November 13, 2024, as well as several other sightings reported throughout the East Coast.
Amid a federal government shutdown, the U.S. Army declined to comment further on the matter.
